June 6 – 9, 2013

Does this page look empty to you?

We are off to a slow start organizing this year’s BusFusion 2011.  Lots of ‘off season’ issues.  Two of the organizing committee were even diagnosed with atrial fibrillation.  The herd is getting old.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU.

What activities did you like in the past?  Which ones did you not care for?  Don’t give a flip and just want to chill by the beach? (we know who you are)

PLEASE enter your comments below so we can try and top last year’s ten anniversary special.  We don’t know if that is possible but what the heck, let’s try.

On behalf of “The Committee”, Paul C, BusFusion Web Guy

Est-ce que cette page vous semble manquer un peu de contenu ?

Après plusieurs questionnements pendant les mois d’hiver, nous  avons dû démarrer très lentement l’organisation du rassemblement BusFusion 2011.

DONC ON VEUT SAVOIR VOTRE OPINION !

I really appreciate the organisation of burito breakfast!
If we can have music right there, inside the building it will be nice (may be folk/blues. Unfortunatelly, last year we don’t brought our bicycles because the temperature was not certain but I presume it’s a nice activity if you have beautifuls places to do that.
I like the ”marché O pus” and the drawing lots at the end but it was too late, we often have a long ride to do after, and at soon it’s too late, the puppy parade take too much place.
    Thanks!
I hope to see you in june! :-)

I really enjoy the campfire and the jam session at the pub. The only downside is that the ironworks/Barley Mow is too small for the number of people that want to attend. I think we would be better off in the hall at the fairgrounds. It’s a lot bigger and closer as well. If we got our own liquor license it would probably make a lot of $$$. If you need help with this I’d be willing to lend a hand.

  • PaulC says:

    Greg,

I agree, I would love to see us use the hall for the jam session. BUT, it is a large job organizing it and it is getting late. I don’t drink (it doesn’t mix well with the drugs) but I like bar tending. Contact Mikie or the Almonte Fair grounds people to see how hard it would be to get the hall again.

  • PaulC says:

The Burrito breakfast is always great BUT this year it will be listed as the “POT LUCK BURRITO BREAKFAST”. Too many new people last year didn’t realize (or read the program) that they needed to bring supplies. Lots more hungry mouths than there was food. Let’s make sure it gets started early this year so there is time for the door prizes and announcements before the far visitors have to hit the road.

  • Jules Besseling says:

    G’day eh!

Greg has a good suggestion re using the hall. The only other issue is food. If you forgo the breakfast and make it a potluck supper at the hall with music to follow, that may bring in the crowds. Not sure how to control who brings what, but if the pre registration is large enough you could ask for offers and group them so you could then start to ask for specific areas of food that are needed as the basics fill up. The pub crawl is always fun. If the pub owners know we’re coming, perhaps they can have scheduled live music on the night we don’t have the hall event, like Thurs and / or Friday and our gang can meander the downtown pubs at our leisure.

My wife (Anna) and I could organize a walking
“treasure hunt” (scavenger hunt) in Almonte for
Saturday or Sunday if your interested..

Also we like the idea of a potluck supper..

    Gerry

  • Mike Cuff says:

    hi gerry!
by all means a treasure hunt would be lotsa fun, the potluck could work too but likely too late to book the big hall. obviously my plate is full with busfusion, but orginze it write a blurb & get it on the website “paul@chidley.ca” and get the ball rollin’

    Hi All!!
    Well, here’s a new activity for 2011.
As many of you may know June is Bicycle month in Almonte/Mississippi mills area
and as a tie in with this we are asking Busfusionites to bring along their funky, vintage, strange, or derilict bikes to put on display and make a point of riding em’ all over town as much as possible and of coarse weather permitting on the saturday a.m. bike tour (was cancelled last year cuz of rain) I’m hoping to procure a prize for the best ride.
I am also working with bicycle month folks to hopefully tie in a bit more activities will post when (if) i have more on this.
    Mikie

  • Adam says:

My only suggestion to add to an already good event, is to do fewer “events”…better. If Breakfast Burritos and the Pot Luck Dinner/Late night Jam aren’t running smooth (and these are really the cornerstones of most bus events), then I’d suggest “re-prioritizing” and focusing existing energy on those. Things like “dog shows” are fun, … but not a priority for the folks ‘running’ Busfusion.

Allow attendees to organize non-priority events, like Mike above suggested, he will run a bike tour, and display. That’s Mike’s ball, he can roll it.

Chris can run “Bubbles on the Beach” or the “Dog Show”.

Busfusion should be in charge of providing the venue, the attendees can/should put together the events.

FWIW, I know Greg suggested running a “bar” on Saturday night. (don’t go there) Greg is probably the best Burrito Breakfast organizer around. Ask him to organize that.

If I manage to actually make it this year, maybe I’ll do Kite Making. I’d like to fly Kites, so there you go.

  • PaulC says:

    Adam,

I would love to tell you to go fly a kite. But in a nice way, if you make it do bring your kite stuff.

Thanks for your comments, I hope someone other than myself reads them.

Last year was the first year we tried the Saturday night Pot Luck Dinner. I agree that this is a feature at most VW Bus events that was not a tradition at BusFusion. We got the hall for free and about half of us had a nice potluck dinner last year as part of the 10th anniversary event. I’ve heard no talk of doing one again this year.

    Regards,

    Paul C. (BusFusion Website Guy)

  • Dan Roberts says:

    Paul:
Carol and I both liked the pot luck, campfire and dog parade, in that order of preference.

But I also liked allowing people to sell their VW “stuff” and other stuff. I made a few dollars and emptied my shelves of things I no longer wanted–and sold them at a very low price. If you plan to do this again this year, you might want to encourage people to bring things to sell. I don’t recall seeing that announcement on the site.

    Regards,
    Dan Roberts

  • Paul;
The campfires (both Fri & Sat nights please!), swap meet and either a bike or bus tour (it’s bike month, so that’s definitely a good idea). The other thing I loved last year were the VW cookies the local baker made.

And I like Adam’s kite making thought (hope you make it Adam).

I will of course bring my camera gear and will be happy to do bus portraits.

  • Lorraine Ryan says:

How about the jam session after the pot luck dinner sat night in the hall, if you have a liquor licence….I have my smart serve and would not mind tending bar…should be a fun night…

  • Jill R. says:

2010 was the first time we had been at BusFusion and we enjoyed the Burrito Breakfast and Potluck. The hall worked out great for the potluck. Having music there afterward would be nice .

  • Jenn Cuff says:

Due to unforseen circumstances with the health of a family member, I am unable to organize/run the Puppy Parade in 2011. Please consider taking on this activity if you have an interest and notify Busfusion organizers asap. My sincere apologies for this late notice.
    Jenn Cuff

  • PaulC says:

    Marshall,

Email me and let me know what the problem was. Is there something I can do to make it easier or more obvious for next year?

    Paul (at) Chidley.ca

  • Frank C says:
